The Kitchen of Clay County

Our Saturday kitchens

Come eat with us, or come serve

Anyone who is hungry is invited to partake. All meals are free of charge. We serve every Saturday at four kitchens across Clay County, and everything is done by volunteers. Whether you need a meal or want to help serve one, this page is for you.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.

Matthew 25:35

Get a meal

Four kitchens, every Saturday

You can come to any of these, whichever is easiest for you. Most serve 11 AM to 1 PM. Black Creek Methodist in Middleburg wraps up at noon, and Mission of the Dirt Road in Keystone Heights serves noon to 2 PM.

What to expect

Your first visit, in plain terms

Walking into a new place can feel like a lot. Here's exactly how it works, with no surprises.

Just show up

No sign-up, no ID, no paperwork, no proof of anything. If you're hungry, you're invited. That's the whole rule.

Pick any location

All four spots serve the same warm welcome. Come to whichever is closest, or wherever your Saturday takes you.

Sit and stay awhile

Meals are served hot and eaten together. Grab a seat, meet a neighbor, and take your time. To-go plates are fine, too.

Bring the whole family

Kids, grandparents, friends: everyone eats free. There's no limit and no judgment, ever.

Come back every week

We're here every Saturday, all 52 of them. Coming once or coming weekly, both are exactly right.

Questions? Just call

If you're not sure about anything, call us at 904.616.6456 and a real neighbor will pick up.

Volunteer

Everything here is done by neighbors

You don't need experience or a big time commitment. You just need a Saturday. Here's what a shift can look like; pick what suits you.

Serve on a Saturday

Ladle soup, hand out bread, refill drinks, and chat with guests. It's simple, social, and over by early afternoon. First-timers are paired with a regular.

Help set up or clean up

Prefer to work behind the scenes? Tables need setting, dishes need washing, and floors need sweeping. Quiet, useful, appreciated.

Cook and prep

If you're handy in a kitchen, help prep soup, sides, and desserts. We'll show you our recipes, or happily learn yours.

  • No experience needed. We'll show you everything on your first day.
  • Shifts run a few hours around the Saturday serving window.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting a little soup on.
  • Teens are welcome alongside a parent or group leader.
  • Come once to try it out. No long-term commitment required.
  • Need documented volunteer hours for school, scouts, an honor society, or a service program? We're glad to verify and sign off on your hours.
  • Please reach out to a kitchen director first to make sure there's volunteer room that week. Their numbers are just below.

Your kitchen directors

Saturdays can fill up, so give the director at your kitchen a quick call before you come. They'll confirm there's room that week and tell you where to park and who to ask for.

Groups & serving teams

Bring your whole crew

Churches, businesses, scout troops, families, friend groups: teams of any size can take on a Saturday together. Groups absolutely can (and do!) serve side by side.

  • Adopt a Saturday. Your team covers one serving location one day a month and brings bread and cheese, plus soup if you like. We handle the other food and logistics.
  • Become a regular team. Many groups serve monthly at the same location. Guests love seeing familiar faces.
  • Start something new. Want to organize a team at the kitchen nearest you? Call us. We'd love to help you get it going.

Where teams serve

  • Orange Park Senior Center in Orange Park, Saturdays 11 AM to 1 PM
  • Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Green Cove Springs, Saturdays 11 AM to 1 PM
  • Black Creek Methodist in Middleburg, Saturdays 11 AM to 12 PM
  • Mission of the Dirt Road in Keystone Heights, Saturdays noon to 2 PM

The table is set. We hope you'll join us.

Hard weeks happen to everybody. There's no story you owe us and nothing to prove. Just soup, bread, and neighbors who are glad you came.
